30th Birthday Weekend Extravaganza

Best. Birthday. Ever. I don't know what more I can say. My friends and family came in from CT, PA, VA and DC to celebrate with us in Maryland. It was so much fun! We started the weekend off with dinner at La Tasca in Rockville. Gina even brought me a crown with a 30 on it!

My tres leches cake!
My Chiffon Flower Necklace made it's first public appearance.

Why so sad?

The peach I was saving from my sangria fell on the floor!
As well as the straw I was using to fish it out of the glass.

On Saturday we drove out to the country to Sugarloaf Mountain Vineyard. Oh, did I mention the weather was BEAUTIFUL? It was unseasonably warm for mid-March, sunny and in the upper 70s. I couldn't have ordered more perfect weather! The winery was having a spring celebration with BBQ and live music. The wine was awesome and the food was great. But the best part was the company.

Red & White, why choose one?

An added bonus, you don't need another person to cheers!
Anyone who knows me knows I love to cheers!

My surprise birthday cake from my wonderful husband!
I accidentally broke the corner of the label because I just had to touch it.

The eats!

We hired Aimee Loebs-Davis from Tastings to come to the condo and do a wine tasting. Aimee was awesome! She split us into two teams and we had to guess from a blind tasting what type of varietal a wine was and if it was new world or old world. She was so informative and fun!

Too much party for a certain Chihuahua.

I am the luckiest girl in the world to have had such a wonderful 30th birthday weekend! Thank you to my friends and family who joined us! Let's do it again in another 10 years! ;)

Spice Rack Organizer

Wow, I have been really bad at posting lately! I guess my 30th birthday celebration distracted me (more on that in the near future). On to my obsession with organizing!

I bought myself a spice rack/spinner when I moved into my first place after college in NY. Over the years I've used most of the spices (I know, I know, spices should be replaced every few months but come on, who does that?) and the remaining ones were never going to be used. In my constant quest for more counter space I decided to keep all my spices in my cabinet. So what to do with the perfectly good spice rack? Craft organizer of course!

It is hard to see in this picture but these jars are perfect for storing beads, buttons, clasps, etc. Everything is in plain view, AND it spins so it is fun by default, I LOVE it! Oh, I washed the glass jars in the dishwasher prior to refilling so my buttons don't smell like cumin. ;)

Fireplace Touch Up

I have been glaring at our fireplace with disdain for almost 3 years now. Why you ask? Those ugly strips of brass on the doors, that's why! I looked into replacing the doors but they are pretty expensive. One day as I was browsing my favorite blogs I stumbled on the answer! Kate at Centsational Girl posted about the same issues she had with her fireplace doors here. P.S. I LOVE her blog, you must follow her, truly inspirational for home decor!

The tools.

The doors taped off.
Sorry for the reflection of me taking the picture!

Ta da!!!
Sorry for the flash but it was dark by the time I took the "after" picture.

This paint is so super awesome I'm looking for other things to paint it on. Too bad I don't have an old ratty grill that needs a paint job. The only downside is now the original black metal looks dull next to my new spiffy black paint. Guess I'll have to paint that too!

Bridal Cookbook

Do you have those projects sitting around for years that you mean to get to but there are always others that get pushed to the front of the line? This project is one of those, although it shouldn't have been because it means so much to me.

For my bridal shower (back in March of 2008) my maid of honor, Lauren, collected favorite recipes from my family and friends so that I could start a book. I've had the recipe cards in the envelope in my closet next to my wedding photos for a couple years now always making a mental note to pick up an album to finally make the book official. I finally found the perfect little book and picked it up right away. It is just a simple fuschia photo album (our wedding colors were fuschia and lime green so of course it had to match) but I love using plastic coverings for my recipes so not to ruin the cards if they get splattered. Look how cute it turned out!

The album before.

My recipes!

My mom's favorite recipe... typical Sue B.

The album even has a spot for notes, so perfect!

All done!

I love having sweet memories such as these in a nice little album to look at anytime I please! Now, which recipe to start with?
